Day 2: Schärding – Passau – Schlögen (approx. 59 km)
Sightseeing-tour in the “three river town” Passau. At 12.00 o’clock you can listen to an organ concert (except on Sundays and public holidays) on the largest church organ of the world in the cathedral. In Passau we start cycling at the southern side of the Danube until the ferry in Engelhartszell. There we cross the Danube and ride at the northern side to Schlögen.
Day 3: Schlögen – Linz (approx. 54 km)
The first highlight of the landscape is the famous Schlögen Danube loop. Then we cycle through the villages Aschach, Wilhering and Ottensheim to Linz. Linz is the capital of Upper Austria. We have enough time for a stroll through the enchanting old town with its interesting sights.
Day 4: Linz – Ardagger/Grein (approx. 65 km)
We leave Linz and go on cycling via Mauthausen or Enns, the oldest town of Austria, to Wallsee. Via Ardagger we reach the beautiful old bargee town Grein. Here is the start of the Strudengau. We can see the castle, the oldest municipal still playing theatre and the maritime museum.
Day 5: Ardagger/Grein – Melk/Emmersdorf (approx. 55 km)
Today we cycle through the Strudengau and the Nibelungengau. In Marbach the pilgrimage centre of Maria Taferl greets us from the hills. Then we cycle to Melk. This town is the highlight of the day because we visit the wonderful baroque Benedictine convent which is situated on a high rock above the Danube. In Melk there is the beginning of the most popular part of the Danube, the Wachau – well known for its wines.
Day 6: Melk/Emmersdorf – Traismauer (approx. 55 km)
Natural and cultural attractions will surprise and impress us again and again. Through some traditional small villages of the Wachau we reach the best known town of this area – Dürnstein where Richard the Lion Heart was once taken captive. Soon we will arrive in Krems, the end of the Wachau. There we cross the Danube again and ride to Traismauer.
Day 7: Traismauer – Vienna (approx. 64 km)
Today we ride the last part of this journey. We cycle to the capital of Austria, Vienna.
