City cycling in Krakow

Description

The City Cycling programme in Krakow allows you to enjoy this magnificent city in a new, original way. While pedalling along medieval streets of the Old Town or Vistula River boulevards you will have a chance to visit most popular sites on the tourist map as well as places normally hidden for pedestrian
visitors. Accommodation is arranged in a centrally located hotel. A detailed map and route description will be provided to you at the beginning of your stay. Our well maintained tour bicycles will be awaiting you at your hotel each morning of the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival to Krakow

Hotel accommodation close to Krakow’s Old Town.

Day 2. Krakow’s OldTown

On the first day of the City Cycling programme you will have a chance to cycle along medieval streets, Royal Route and former city walls. Bicycle is an ideal mean of transport in Krakow’s OldTown where car traffic is excluded. Your route will encompass the Main Market Square, University District and will further follow a cycle path along the Vistula River towards Kosciuszko Mound, the highest point within Krakow with wide views of the city, Vistula Valley and foothills of Carpathian Mountains.

Day 3: Jewish Quarter Kazimierz and socialist model city - Nowa Huta

Today’s route will begin in Kazimierz, formerly a separate city with its own defending walls. Until World War II, a large part of Kazimierz was inhabited by Jewish population. Since the beginning of 90ties this part of Krakow is going through a cultural revival where many galleries, cafes, and restaurants serving traditional Jewish cuisine are located. You shall make several stops to admire medieval synagogues, churches and homes of the people who once lived here.

After leaving Kazimierz the route follows Vistula River towards Nowa Huta and its core, the Central Square, formerly decorated with Lenin statue. The architecture of Nowa Huta contrasts with historic buildings of Krakow and reminds of communist times where size and monumentality mattered most. After sightseeing in Nowa Huta the route returns towards Krakow’s Old Town where your accommodation is arranged.

Day 4: Ojcowski National Park

During the last day of the City Cycling programme you will visit natural surroundings of Krakow, namely Ojcowski National Park. Located in the north-west vicinity of the city, the park is a popular destination for cyclists and walkers. The Park is full of valleys, ravines and caves carved in limestone rock. During your stay you will have a chance to visit Ciemna Cave where traces of Neolithic life have been found, and castle of Ojcow, which is a part of ancient Eagles’ Nests Trail.
